VTE Exemplar Centres Buddy System

The National VTE Survey by Thrombosis UK and Getting It Right First Time (2021) in collaboration with the VTE Exemplar Centres Network, highlighted the need for health care organisations in England to implement and embed VTE prevention processes to reduce the risk of patient harm from VTE.

The report recommended that centres not yet achieving the 95% VTE risk assessment threshold should buddy up with an established VTE Exemplar Centre to enable sharing of best practice, resources and to provide mentorship and support. VTE Exemplar Centres are centres with a proven track record of excellence in VTE prevention and are well placed to share their experiences and support others to achieve the same.

Unfortunately we are only able to offer support to Trusts in England at Wales at present.

We will attempt to buddy you with an organisation with a similar structure to your own and within close proximity, but please note that this isn't always possible so virtual meetings may be necessary.

The format of the support you receive is up to you and your buddy centre but it is a good idea to agree up front the frequency of meetings and an action plan. All organisations in the scheme will be required to complete a short evaluation at 6 and 12 months to assess the effectiveness of this approach.
